RAMÓN NOVARRO. Typed Letter signed: "Ramón", 1 p, 6¼x10. On personal letterhead. No place, but accompanying envelope is postmarked Studio City, California; 1963 October 30. To "My dear Calvin [Boddy]". In full: "Please forgive me for not having written you before this. I have been mulling in my mind your proposition and have discussed it with friends whose advice is very valuable to me. And after careful consideration of the pros and cons of it I have come to the conclusion that I am too old to start in a business that I don't know anything about. I am deeply grateful for your having thought of me and I know that you will find someone else who will be just right. And very soon too. With my very best regards to you and your dear wife and a heart full of good wishes for your future, I'll close. Always your friend." Accompanied by typed envelope to Calvin Boddy, Chino, California, postmarked on same date. Mexican-born Novarro (1899-1968) was a big star of silent films in the 1920s who made a successful transition into talkies in the next decade. He made occasional film and TV appearances until his brutal murder. Billed as "the next Valentino", Novarro played the title role in Ben Hur (1925). Fine condition.
