RANDY McLAUGHLIN
His signature and caption on the color drawing of a dress he designed for actress Heather Locklear
Original Art signed: "For/Heather Locklear/Randy McLaughlin". Also initialed by the artist: "W.M./84". 11x17 drawing, 16x20 overall. Mounted on heavy cardstock (2 surfaces). Ink and pencil notes on verso (unknown hand) reference a style number, etc., and appear to be instructions to the tailor(s) actually making the dress. Randy McLaughlin and his partner Jerry Skeels formed JERAN Designs in 1982. In 1983 they designed a dress for Joan Collins to wear on the cover of Playboy. In 1984 they designed the wedding dress worn by Melody Scott Thomas on The Young and the Restless, while appearing on the show - as designers. McLaughlin's most famous project is the Hollywood Graffiti Gown, dedicated to AIDS awareness, which has the signatures of 395 female stars beaded into the fabric. The first signature was that of Bette Davis, the most recent the signatures of the Desperate Houswives. Other signers include Elizabeth Taylor and Mother Teresa. McLaughlin claimed that no one refused to sign. McLaughlin and his late partner Skeels have received many awards, including the UN International Spirit Award. McLaughlin's creations have been displayed in many museums, including New York's Museum of Modern Art. He has published a book, The Glamour Kings of Hollywood. At the time this dress was designed for her, Heather McLaughlin was appearing in two TV series, the police show T.J. Hooker and the prime time soap Dynasty. If worn in an episode, this draw more likely appeared on Dynasty. Locklear is also one of the signers of the Graffiti Dress. Otherwise fine condition.
