URBAN HORRORS
Limited copy, first edition of this horror anthology, signed by a dozen well-known masters of the genre, all included in this collection
Book signed: "Robert W. Lavoie", "James Kisner", "J. N. Williamson", "John Maclay", "Joe R. Lansdale", "Martin Greenberg", "William F. Nolan", "Ray Bradbury", "Richard Matheson", "Ramsey Campbell", "Richard C. Matheson", "Dennis Etchison", 246 pages, 6½x9½. In all 12 signatures. Urban Horrors, edited by William F. Nolan and Martin H. Greenberg. Arlington Heights, Illinois: Dark Harvest Press, 1990. Illustrated by Robert W. Lavoie. Limited first edition. Numbered copy #295 of 500. As the title suggests, this is a collection of horror short stories in an urban setting, written by many of the best known names in the field. The Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated RAY BRADBURY (1920-2012), a science fiction Grand Master, is a master of the horror genre as well, as in his film and novel Something Wicked This Way Comes. ROBERT W. LAVOIE has illustrated many horror anthologies and novels (Evil Always Ends). He also crafted award-winning paintings of endangered species. JAMES KISNER (1947-2008) wrote 11 novels, mostly in the horror genre, and many short stories. J. N. WILLIAMSON (1932-2005) wrote dozens of horror novels, and the well-regarded How to Write Tales of Horror (1987). He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Horror Writers of America in 2003. Prolific horror writer JOHN MACLAY was called by the Baltimore Sun "a virtuoso of the Gothic." His Dreadful Delineations (2007) is a collection of 30 of his best short stories. JOE R. LANSDALE (b. 1951) writes in many genres, and received an Edgar from the Mystery Writers of America, but he has 8 Bram Stoker awards and Grand Master status (2007) in the horror genre. MARTIN H. GREENBERG (1941-2011) added his middle initial to distinguish himself from the late Martin Greenberg, another well-known anthologist, but Martin H. Greenberg - best known as an editor - earned many plaudits himself, including one of the first Solstice Awards from the Science Fiction Writers Association. WILLIAM F. NOLAN (b. 1928) has been named a Living Legend of Dark Fantasy and earned a Lifetime Achievement Stoker award. He may be best known for two stories turned into films: Logan's Run and Burnt Offerings. RICHARD B. MATHESON (b. 1926-2013) is famed for his fantasy and horror classics made into films: The Incredible Shrinking Man, What Dreams May Come, Somewhere in Time and I Am Legend. He wrote the classic Twilight Zone episode "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" and the story "Duel", the basis of Spielberg's well-known TV movie. His is the father of RICHARD C. MATHESON (b. 1953), the author of the novel Created By, 75 short stories, and the pilots for television series for nine different networks. Considered an expert on the occult, he works with the Parapsychology Lab at UCLA. English horror writer RAMSEY CAMPBELL (b. 1946) has won nearly every prize in the genre. His most recent short story collection, Just Behind You, was released in 2009; the newest of his 32 novels, The Kind Folk, was published in 2012. Novelist and short story writer DENNIS ETCHISON (b. 1943) is a past President of the Horror Writers Association, a three-time winner of the British Fantasy Award, and winner of the World Fantasy Association Award for his anthologies.
