RAY CONNIFF. Autograph Musical Quotation inscribed and signed: "To Steve/from Ray Conniff" on photograph. B/w, 8x10 overall, image 7½x8¾ (one surface). Columbia Records publicity photograph. Captioned at lower margin. Conniff has drawn a bar of music from "S'Wonderful" beneath his signature. Orchestra leader and conductor Ray Conniff (1916-2002), the founder of the Ray Conniff Orchestra and Singers, has recorded over 90 albums and sold over 65 million albums, cassettes and CDs. His first LP, S'Wonderful, for Columbia Records, was one of the best-selling instrumental albums of that time, and he went on to record 25 straight Top 40 LPs for the label in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1974, Conniff was the first pop artist from the West asked to go to Moscow to record an album. Conniff, who recorded a number of international albums (including Ray Conniff in Britain for CBS Records and a number of albums for Discos CBS International), gave concerts in Brazil less than a year before his death. One of his last appearances was a performance of "Somewhere My Love" at the wedding of Liza Minnelli and David Gest. Ink slightly smudged at the "niff" of signature. Slightly creased at lower blank margin. Minor surface creases (not evident head on). Black mark at lower right corner. Fine condition.
