Typed Letter signed: "Ray Ellington", 1 page, 8x10. Broadcasting
House, London, 1966 June 29. To Norman Jones, Leicester, England. In
full: "Thank you for your letter and I now enclose photograph of myself,
as requested by you for your collection of autographed photographs of radio and
T.V. personalities. [Item not included.] With all good wishes, yours
sincerely". English singer, drummer and bandleader Ray Ellington
(1916-1985), born Harry Pitts Brown, led a jazz quartet which was featured on
musical segment of the BBC radio comedy The Goon Show (1951-1960).
Ellington also appeared in the voice segment of the program, which influenced
later British comics like Monty Python, speaking in a variety of dialects.
Ellington's ensemble was the first English group to employ amplified electric
guitars. Horizontal fold. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Lightly soiled.
Notch at left center fold crease. Otherwise, fine condition.
