RAY HARRYHAUSEN
Shown at work on his model "Kraken" monster for the film Clash of the Titans
Inscribed Printed Photograph Signed in Ink: "To: Pierre/Best Wishes/Ray Harryhausen". B/w, 8x10. Raymond Harryhausen(1920-2013) is a legendary special effects creator and producer who was famous for his stop-motion animated movie creatures and monsters of the 1950s to 1980s and who inspired many of today's special effects creators, including Steven Spielberg and Tim Burton. Many of his creatures showed up in fairly schlocky movies, like Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (1956), which meant that his creatures often eclipsed the real-life actors. But his special effects also showed up in high-budget movies like The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953) and Clash of the Titans (1981). Jason and the Argonauts (1963) is considered his masterpiece, including a scene of three live actors fighting seven skeletons. Because Harryhausen preferred to work with ancient and mythic stories, he never created special effects for futuristic films, but the honorary Academy Award he received in 1992 for contribution to the film industry, presented by his friends Tom Hanks and Ray Bradbury, restored him to the limelight. He has authored three books on his craft, and is in demand at fan conventions. Fine condition.
