10-14-1943. Ray McDonald (1920-1959) forming a tap dance team with sister
Grace McDonald, was a hit in the Broadway musical Babe in Arms at age
16. His early films showed great promise, including his contribution to
the Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland Babes on Broadway (1941). Wartime
service stalled his career. His last feature film was All Ashore (with
Rooney and Dick Haymes, 1943), described by one critic as "a poor man's
On the Town. Appearances on TV variety shows, including Ed Sullivan,
seemed to promise a fresh start, but he choked to death on food in a New
York hotel room at age 37. Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business
man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends
with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves,
Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in
fountain pen. Corners worn and creased. Multiple ink stamps and typing on
verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
