Document signed: "Ray Milland", 1p, 8½x14. Beverly Hills, California, 1977 March 31. He has handwritten his Beverly Hills address below his signature. For the sum of $10, Milland grants Allyn/Lunney Productions to use his name and likeness in film clips and still photographs from the film Dial M for Murder in connection with the producer's pending TV movie, The Story of Princess Grace. Pencil notation (unknown hand) in upper right corner. Ray Milland (1905-1986) spent the 1930s and early 1940s playing light romantic leads in such films as Next Time We Love (1936); Three Smart Girls (1936); Easy Living (1937) in which he is especially charming opposite Jean Arthur in an early Preston Sturges script; and the major in Billy Wilder's The Major and the Minor (1942) opposite Ginger Rogers. Milland won an Oscar for his intense and realistic portrait of an alcoholic in The Lost Weekend (1945). In Dial M for Murder, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, Milland convincingly portrays a wastrel husband who schemes to have his wife (Grace Kelly) murdered for the insurance. Binder holes at top. Light edge creases. Two light, nail head-sized stains to left of handwritten address. Bold horizontal fold 3½ inches from lower edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
