Typed Letter signed: "R. Baldwin", as US Senator, 8x10½ page, affixed at an 8½x11 page. Washington, D.C., 1947 March 22. On letterhead of the Senate Armed Services Committee to Ralph Errington Ward, Jr., Melrose Highlands, Massachusetts. In full: "I am happy to send you my autograph for your collection. With kindest regards I am, Yours very sincerely". Newspaper photo affixed in lower margin. Accompanied by transmittal envelope bearing Baldwin's stamped frank. RAYMOND EARL BALDWIN (1893-1986), a lawyer, judge and state legislator, served as Governor of Connecticut (1939-1940, 1942-1946) and US Senator (1946-1949). At the Republican National Convention of 1940, Baldwin was a key supporter of Wendell Willkie's successful "dark horse" nomination. In 1965, Baldwin chaired Connecticut's constitutional convention.From the collection Ralph Errington Ward (1926-2009) a fighter pilot and squadron commander in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II. Ward became President and CEO of Cheseborough-Ponds, Inc., transforming the cosmetics firm into a major home product conglomerate. Multiple mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
