In full: "I am pleased to submit my signature for your autograph collection. Yours very sincerely". Raymond Earl Baldwin (1893-1986), a lawyer, judge and state legislator, served as Governor of Connecticut (1939-1940, 1942-1946) and US Senator (1946-1949). At the Republican National Convention of 1940, Baldwin was a key supporter of Wendell Willkie's successful "dark horse" nomination. In 1965, Baldwin chaired Connecticut's constitutional convention.
