01-858 2154". Ink date (unknown hand): April 1972. Royal Navy Rear Admiral E. W.
Ellis, Commander of the British Empire, was named Admiral President of the
Royal Naval College at Greenwich in 1972, the year this signature was
acquired. The Admiral President, who reported directly to the Commander in Chief
of the Naval Home Command, oversaw officer education and staff training. Read
Admiral Ellis presided over the centenary celebrations of the institution in
1973. The College closed in 1998, officer education having been consolidated to
other sites. The historic buildings now house the University of Greenwich.
