Autograph letter signed: "Jesse G. Johnson", in blue ink, 6x7. March 7, 1973. In full: "Dear Mr Stanhope: Enclosed is the signed photograph you requested [item not included]. All of the "Old Boy [illegible] Mail" booklets are gone. I do have 6 copies of Sourdough Flights and several copies of Judge Stranger's Blue Skies Ahead. I would be glad to send one of each of the latter two to you in return for a small contribution to my favorite charity, the "Federates March of Dimes". Very sincerely". Captain Jesse G. Johnson (1895-1980) was the first commander of the aircraft repair ship Webster, commissioned March 17, 1945. While in the Pacific, the Webster serviced the fleet carriers Wasp, Antietamand Intrepid. The Presidential Unit Citation was conferred upon Captain Johnson in October, 1945. After the war, Johnson received promotions up to Rear Admiral upon his retirement. A stamp and autograph collector, Rear Admiral Johnson became an original director of the Universal Autograph Collectors Club in 1965. Folds on right margin and center fold. Light surface creases across. Slightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
