Ken Mattingly, Haley Weyer and David Griggs sign a philatelic envelope honoring the Grumman Gulfstream II Shuttle Training Aircraft (STA).
Philatelic Envelope signed: "Ken Mattingly", "S.D. Griggs" and "Harley Weyer", 6½x3½. Printed cachet honors "Grumman Gulfstream II/Shuttle Training Aircraft (STA)", bearing 13-cent Independence Hall stamp postmarked White Sands Missile Range, NM, March 24, 1978. Cachet depicts "Grumman Gulfstream II/Shuttle Training Aircraft", and notes "Shuttle Training Flight/Astronaut T. Mattingly/Instr. David Griggs/Flt. Eng. - C. Weyer". Mattingly was the Command Module pilot of Apollo 16 (1972) and the commander of Columbia STS-4 (1982) and Discovery 51-C (1985). GRIGGS (1939-1989) was mission specialist on Discovery 51-D (1985). He was killed in the crash of a vintage WWII aircraft. Light yellow stain at lower right corner from removal of label. Fine condition.
