LOUIS GOLDSBOROUGH. ANS: "L.M. Goldsborough", 1p, 7x3 lined sheet. No place, no date. Addressee unknown. In full: "With best regards to a friend of long/standing whom I prize most highly for her/very many excellent qualities." Goldsborough commanded Commodore Matthew C. Perry's squadron in an attack on Tuxpan during the Mexican War and explored California and Oregon in 1849-1850. Rear Admiral in 1862, he commanded the fleet that captured Roanoke Island and destroyed the Confederate fleet. Vertical folds touch "L" and "s" of Louis. Mounting remnants on verso show through lightly at all four corners.
