Autograph Letter Signed: "Byrd", 1¼p, front and verso, 5¼x6½. Hotel Kimball, Springfield,
Mass., no date. To his lecture agent, James B. Pond. In full: "I am delighted to be able to tell
you that Carlisle, Buffalo, Bloomsburg, Cortland were bulls eyes - big audiences and enthusiastic
- all made money and seemed very pleased - also Scranton I forgot to include. Hastily". Richard
E. Byrd (1888-1957) flew over the North Pole (1926) and South Pole (1929), established
the "Little America" Antarctic base during his first Antarctic expedition in 1929. Paper clip
stain at upper margin. Tip of top left-hand corner missing. "Byrd" in pencil in an unknown
hand at top right. Lightly soiled at lower blank half of side containing signature. Otherwise,
fine condition.
