RICHARD E. BYRD
He wants a lecture contract similar to his earlier one, after his
Trans-Atlantic flight.
TLS: "Dick", 1p, 8½x11. West Tremont,
Maine, 1931 September 22. To his agent, James B. "Bim" Pond. In full:
"Until we can get together on our lecture contract, I suggest that you do not
go under $750.00 per lecture. I believe I would prefer to have the kind of a
contract I had after the Trans-Atlantic Flight, if possible, but perhaps you and
I can get together on this shortly. I will take it up by letter in a few days
and will answer carefully everything brought up in your letter." On May 9,
1926, Admiral Byrd commanded the first aircraft flight over the North Pole.
In June 1927, he made the first West-East transatlantic flight in a
multi-engined aircraft, a feat for which Congress awarded him a special Medal of
Honor. Shortly before this letter, Byrd suffered a great financial loss and was
in need of money. Lightly creased. File hole and pinhead-size holes at upper
blank edge. Fine condition.
