American football playerJohn Thurman "Red" Cochran, Jr. (1922-2004) was born in Fairfield, Alabama on August 2, 1922. He played college ball at Wake Forest University, and was drafted by Card-Pitt in the 1944 NFL Draft. A cornerback and special teams player, he averaged 17.7 yards per punt and 18.5 yards per kick return. After his playing career, he was an assistant coach for the Detroit Lions (1956-1958), Green Bay Packers (1959-1966, 1971-1974), St. Louis Cardinals (1968-1969), San Diego Chargers (1971) and was a scout for the Green Bay Packers (1975-2004).
