RED FOLEY. Magazine Photograph signed: "Red Foley". B/w 5x5 photo on 10¾x8 page. Beneath the photo are nine lines
of printed biography. FOLEY (1910-1968), featured on WLS Radio's
National Barn Dance in the 1930s, became a Grand Ole Opry headliner in the late
1940s, symbolizing changes then affecting country music. He was the first
country artist to have his own radio program, co-hosted by Red Skelton, and
the first major performer to record in Nashville (1945). He hosted
TV's country showcase, The Ozark Jubilee (1954-1960). Borrowing from
many styles, his top-selling recordings ranged from boogie-woogie to gospel
songs. His many hits included "Smoke on the Water" (1944) and "Peace
in the Valley" (1951) He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame
in 1967. Also on the page is a photo and brief biography of Skeets McDonald
