"The Moth". This is a 21-line poem byWhittemore. Whittemore,
born Edward Reed Whittemore II (1919-2012) in New Haven, Connecticut,
is an American poet and college professor who was consultant in poetry to the
U.S. Library of Congress (now poet laurate) from1964 to 1965 and again from
1984 to 1985. Whittemore published his first collection of poetry, Heroes
& Heroines, in 1946, after serving in the Air Force in World War II, and
has since published 10 more volumes as of this biography. He's known for his
wry, but increasingly bitter and satirical, verse. He's also written prose,
including William Carlos Williams: Poet from Jersey (1975) and Six
Literary Lives (1993).Whittemore also cofounded and founded the poetry
magazine Furioso, which ran off and on from his college days at Yale to
1953, and its successor, The Carleton Miscellany, and he revived the
magazine Delos. Lightly toned and creased. Folded twice and unfolded.
