Scottsdale, Arizona, 1984 September 4. On personal letterhead to Mr. Gamble. In full:
"Please excuse the long delay in answering your ? I have had health problems the last year and my
correspondence is a mess, Enclosed is a print of my Pulitzer Prize cartoon and my last Christmas
card" Reginald "Reg" Manning (1905-1986) was an editorial cartoonist with the "Arizona
Republic" for 50 years, beginning in 1926. Best known for his whimsical cactus people
who illustrated his book What Kinda Cactus is That?, and his line of souvenir tablecloths and
postcards introduced in 1939). Manning won the 1951 Pulitzer Prize for his cartoon,
"Hats", which contrasted the top hats of diplomats meeting in Geneva with the helmet of yet
another casualty of the war still being waged in Korea. Paper missing from bottom right (not
affecting content). Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
