REGINA PLAY CAST
A showbill for the opera Regina containing an extensive amount of signers from the cast, including star Jane Pickens, David Thomas, Marc Blitzstein, Brenda Lewis, and 17 others.
Signed by 21 members of the cast, including performers, singers, and dancers throughout various pages for the showbill of the L.A.B. Amusement Corp production of Regina at the Colonial Theatre in Boston, starring Jane Pickens. The opera, based on Lillian Hellman's The Little Foxes, follows the story of Regina Hubbard Giddens in her struggle for wealth in early 20th century society. Originally premiering in 1949, the play has featured many revivals over the years, with this being one of the original off-Broadway productions. Jane Pickens (1912-1992) was a popular musical singer on Broadway and radio, possessing a powerful mezzo-soprano voice. She began her singing career as the leader of the Pickens Sisters, a group composed of her and her sisters that was direct competition for the Boswell sisters. When the group disbanded after two sisters married, Pickens continued to pursue music, and would often take back up formal training to refine her skills. One of her biggest roles was in the opera Regina, though it was certainly not her only credit. She also sang in the Ziegfeld Follies, appearing in the same cast as Fanny Brice and Gypsy Rose Lee. Her career slowed later in life, but she still continued her passion for music, performing at charity events and fund-raising affairs, with the Salvation Army being a particular favorite of hers. Edges and corners lightly worn. Lightly toned. Fine condition.
