REGINA RESNIK and LJUBA WELITSCH
The opera stars are shown as Donna Elvira and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni at the Met.
Photograph signed: "Regina/Resnik", "Ljuba Welitsch". B/w, 10x8. Photo: Louis Melançon. American actress and operatic soprano, later mezzo-soprano REGINA RESNIK (b. 1922) debuted with both the New York City Opera and the Metropolitan Opera in 1944, and many of her opera roles were released on record. In 1983 she wrote and produced a TV documentary, The Historic Ghetto of Venice. (Resnik resides in both Venice and New York.) She received a Tony nomination for her role as Frau Schneider in Cabaret (1988). She was married to Lithuanian artist Arbut Blatas until his death in 1999. LJUBA WELITSCH (1913-1996) was a Bulgarian-born opera star with flaming red hair, particularly famed for her convincing Salome, which she performed for composer Richard Strauss himself for his 80th birthday in Vienna (1944). Resnik and Welitsch are pictured here in the roles of Donna Elvira and Donna Anna, respectively, in a Metropolitan Opera performance of Don Giovanni (1951). Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso (no show-through). Fine condition.
