Signature of the British character actor
Inscribed album leaf signed "To Maureen/Reginald Owen". Also signed "(Died 11/6/72)" in unknown hand in blue ink. 4x2¼. British character actor Owen (1887-1972), born John Reginald Owen, made over 80 films after making his Hollywood debut in the 1929 film, The Letter. Owen, who had trained for the stage (he made his British debut in 1905), had appeared in his first British film in 1911. His film credits include Sherlock Holmes (1932), Of Human Bondage and Madame DuBarry (both 1934), Anna Karenina and A Tale of Two Cities (both 1935), A Christmas Carol (1938), Charley's Aunt (1941), Mrs. Miniver (1942), Madame Curie (1943) and National Velvet (1944) as well as his later Disney films, Mary Poppins (1964) and Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971). Owen, who had made his Broadway debut in 1924, returned to the Great White Way in 1972, the year he died, in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. That year, Owen, who was working on his autobiography when he died, also appeared in an episode of TV's McCloud, one of his numerous small screen guest appearances. Lightly toned and stained, otherwise in fine condition.
