RENATA TEBALDI. Program inscribed and signed: "To/James/Renata Tebaldi", 56p, 8¼x10¾. Signed on biography page (32), below her picture (b/w, 2x2½). "Performing Arts" magazine edition for a series of performances at the Dorothy Chandler Music Center Pavilion, Los Angeles, California, February 1973. Tebaldi's performance took place on February 26, 1973. Typed text states: "For Miss Tebaldi's program, see special insert." [not present]. Born in Pesaro, Italy, Renata Tebaldi (1922-2004) made her debut as Elena in Boito's Mefistofele in 1944. In 1946, she made her La Scala debut at the concert which marked the reopening of the theater after World War II. She made her American debut as Aïda (San Francisco Opera), debuting at New York's Metropolitan Opera in 1955 as Desdemona in Otello. Tebaldi performed frequently at the Met in numerous operas including La Bohème, Madama Butterfly, Tosca and La Traviata. She retired from the stage in 1973 and from the concert hall in 1976. Lightly toned in blank lower margin. ¼-inch tear at upper right edge of signature page. Lowest of three staples loose from page. Mailing label remnant on front cover. Otherwise, fine condition.
