RENÉ CLAIR, JIM BRYSON, JIMMY NERVO
The English entertainers all sign this album leaf in 1931. Extremely rare signatures!
Autograph sentiment signed: "Bonne chance/René Clair/23-4-31", "P.S. Too Bashful to talk/about himself--the worlds/greatest producer--because/I know Jim Bryson" and on verso, "Best wishes/Jimmy Nervo" in black ink, 5x3¾. RENÉ CLAIR (1898-1981) was an award-winning French silent film producer, director and screenwriter who had careers both in France and internationally. His best known films include The Italian Straw Hat (1928), Under the Roofs of Paris (1930), Le Million (1931), À nous la liberté (1931), I Married a Witch (1942), and And Then There Were None (1945). In his career he took home over a dozen awards for his pictures, including the 1948 French Syndicate of Cinema Critics Awards for Le silence est d'or (1947). JIM BRYSON (1883-1935) was an American-born English film actor and management associate. He is credited with two film appearances, including George Marshall's The Burglar (1924). At the time of his death in 1935 he was the managing director of Universal Pictures, England. While he was born in Missouri, records indicate he is from a prominent family of Scioto County, London England. JIMMY NERVO (1898-1975) was best known as part of the acrobatic dance team duo Nervo and Knox. Partnered with Teddy Knox (1896-1974), the duo performed comedic acts on stage and in films, including It's in the Bag (1936), Skylarks (1936) The Frozen Limits (1939). One of their best skits was a slow motion wrestling fight which they became their big showstopper on tour. Toned and creased. Left edge worn from binding. Lightly soiled. Ink blots (unknown hand) on verso (not affecting signature).
