In 1939, French-born American bacteriologist René Jules Dubos (1901-1982) discovered tyrocidine and gramicidin, derived from soil bacteria and effective against pneumococcus. He also developed a method of culturing tubercle bacilli in 1946. Dubos was awarded the 1969 Pulitzer Prize in General Nonfiction for So Human an Animal. Minor surface creases and impressions (most not evident head on), impressions touch forehead. Fine condition.
