RENEE HOUSTON - AUTOGRAPHED INSCRIBED PHOTOGRAPH - HFSID 70272
Very rare signed photograph of the Houston Sisters, signed by the older Renee for both herself and her sister
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Belsie/With Sincere Love/And Kindest Thoughts/Renee + Bill/Houston", in black ink, Vintage b/w 8½x10¾. The more successful half of the Scottish Houston Sisters, actress and vaudeville performer Renee Houston (1902-1980) toured music halls across Europe with her sister Billie, basing their comedy on sibling rivalry and Scottish working life. They proved so popular that the sisters were given their own musical short in 1926, being one of the few films of the time to be played along with a soundtrack. After their duo ended, Houston continued to act, appearing in films such as A Town Like Alice (1956), Anna Christie (1957), and Three on a Spree (1961). She also appeared in several television series, and in 1974, published her autobiography. Corners worn and creased. Toned. Creased throughout. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Very slightly silvered. Signature in poor contrast, but legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
