REVEREND FREDERICK BROWN HARRIS
The Chaplain of the Senate signs his name on a post card to Barbara Norton, then head of the Public Relations department at the Sheraton-Park Hotel, speaking of his trip in New Jersey.
Autograph letter signed: "Frederick Brown Harris", in blue ink, 3½x8½. Liberty stamp, 3¢. Atlantic City, New Jersey. April 26, 1960. In full: "My face is still red because of Atlantic City blazing sun and the memory that a very charming girl picked up the tab last week where I was proudly thinking of her as my guest at the Senate. I spoke here yesterday at the Rotary Convention. That means 3 speeches for me in 3 days in 3 cities. Am enjoying immensely Mr. Henderson's fabulous story. I'll write him about it. I sent him a copy of the Senate Prayers as you suggested. This is an engraved invitation to leave your pocket book home and come to the Senate Dining Room any time. Yours ever". Reverend Frederick Brown Harris (1883-1970) was a Methodist clergyman, and Chaplain of the Senate from 1942-1947 to 1949-1969, taking a brief time away in-between due to Peter Marshall serving as chaplain. During his time serving as Chaplain of the Senate, Harris would become friends with many famous attendees to his services, including various presidents and world leaders. He would also conduct funerals for the passing of a number of notable Americans, including Herbert Hoover and Douglas MacArthur. Adhesive residue on verso. Corners lightly worn. Fine condition.
