REX HARRISON and ARMINA MARSHALL
Rex Harrison signs a contract agreeing to act in a radio version of the play, Berkeley Square.
Contract signed: "Rex Harrison", 2p, 8½x11. Contract between The Theatre Guild, Inc. and Rex Harrison engaging Harrison to act in a radio version of the play, Berkeley Square. Co-signed by "Armina Marshall" for The Theatre Guild. Sir REX HARRISON (1908-1990), known for his suave, nonchalant style, appeared in the Broadway (1956-1958) and film (1964) versions of My Fair Lady, winning a Tony Award and the Best Actor Academy Award for his role as Professor Henry Higgins. He also won the 1949 Tony for Anne of a Thousand Days and was nominated for the 1963 Best Actor Oscar for Cleopatra. ARMINA MARSHALL, who first appeared on the Broadway stage in 1924, became a prominent playwright and producer. The Theatre Guild, which she and husband Lawrence Langer founded in 1919, still flourishes, having produced 228 Broadway plays as of 2002. Marshall and Langer received a Tony Award for the stage version of Sunrise at Campobello in 1958 and a special Tony (1961) for organizing the first repertory group to tour the world for the U.S. State Department (at the behest of President John F. Kennedy). Whole at upper left corner and lower right edge. Staple holes at left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
