REX REED
Reed signed this typed letter in 1971 to thank a Mr. Palmer for "your
recent letter and the kind words in it concerning by writing".
Typed letter signed "Rex Reed" in brown ink. 1 page, 8¼x7, on
letterhead from the Chicago Tribune-New York News Syndicate, Inc. Aug. 26,
1971. Addressed to "Mr. Palmer". In full: "Dear Mr. Palmer:
Thank you for your recent letter and the kind words in it concerning by writing.
I am happy to enclose the autographed photo [not included] you requested.
Many happy returns,". Reed, born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1938, is
one of the most prolific movie critics in the country, and for decades
has written entertainment columns for The New York Observer. In 1970, he
made his movie debut playing Myron in Myra Breckinridge, the young man
whose post-sex change operation persona was played by Raquel Welch. He has even
gotten a Golden Globe Best Supporting Actor nomination for playing himself in
Superman (1978). Reed was also a panelist on Chuck Barris' infamous
The Gong Show (1976-1978). But Reed's success came in reviewing movies,
not starring in them. Paperclip and other impressions and pinhole near top edge.
