Photograph inscribed and signed: "Para Dante Pilara/Bs Aires, Agosto [August] 1945". B/w, 4x5½. Ricardo Odnoposoff (1914-2004), born in Argentina of Russian parents, studied violin in Germany, debuting as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic at age 17. He won first prize at the prestigious Vienna violin competition of 1932, and remained in Austria until Nazi Germany absorbed it in 1938. Moving first to Argentina and then to the US, Odnoposoff made his Carnegie Hall debut in 1944, and became a US citizen in 1953. Returning to Austria in 1956, he taught there for the rest of his life. As a violinist, he was known for his mellow sound and masterful technique. Lightly creased. Lightly soiled. Ink note (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine condition.
