RICH "GOOSE" GOSSAGE
Clipped signature of Hall of Famer relief pitcher Gossage signing as "Rich
Gossage"
Clipped signature signed "Rich Gossage". 3x2½. Hard-throwing
Gossage, born in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1951, played 22 Major
League seasons (1972-1994), was one of baseball's finest relief pitchers and
was the only 2008 inductee into the Baseball Hall of Fame. A nine-time
All-Star, Gossage appeared in three World Series, two for the New York Yankees
and one for the San Diego Padres. He led the American League in saves
three times, finishing in the elite 300-save club with 310 for his career.
When he retired in 1994, he was the American League's oldest player at 42.
Gossage had a career ERA of 3.01, with a career low 0.77 ERA in 1981, and
1,502 career strikeouts. Gossage was known for his gruff demeanor, big mustache
and blistering fastball, which was really his only pitch. However, Gossage's
heat routinely reached 98 to 102 mph, and he was still throwing in the
mid-90s in the early 1990's, making for a very effective and intimidating relief
pitcher. Lightly toned and creased. Upper corner and lower left corner are
creased. Small tear in upper right corner. Lower edge has been neatly torn from
a larger sheet. Otherwise in fine condition.
