RICHARD ARLEN. ANS: "Richard Arlen", 7¾x3¾. No place, no date. To George. In full: "It was a great pleasure being with you. Good Luck." Captioned magazine photograph, b/w, 1x1, of a 50-year-old Arlen affixed at upper right. Richard Arlen (1900-1976), born Richard Cornelius van Mattimore, costarred with Buddy Rogers and Clara Bow in Wings (1927), the first-ever Academy Award-winning motion picture (he would much later be reunited with Rogers in an episode of the TV sitcom, Petticoat Junction). One of Paramount's most popular leading men in the 1920s and 1930s, Arlen continued to act through the 1970s. His film credits include The Virginian (1929), The Santa Fe Trail (1930), Helldorado (1935), Call of the Yukon (1938), That's My Baby (1944), Hurricane Smith (1952), The Snows of Kilimanjaro (1952), Johnny Reno (1966) and The Great Call of the Wild (1976, his last film). Lightly creased. Rectangular shading at left margin touches 4 words (all legible), type transference near, but not touching, writing. Lightly soiled at blank areas. Overall, fine condition.
