RICHARD ATCHESON
Stylishly witty reply to a reader who had praised an article he wrote
for Saturday Review
Typed Letter signed: "Richard Atcheson", 1 page, 8½x6¼. No
place, May 10, no year. To "Dear Miss Plummer", in full:
"Saturday Review (with many mumbled apologies for tardiness) has just
forwarded your letter to me about having liked the 'Down and Out' piece, and all
I can say is that you really know the right way to treat a writer. Boy! You
handed me about two weeks' worth of ego massage right there; you've got me
strutting around my typewriter, striking poses at the dinner table, even
working a little. Many thanks for taking the trouble to rub me the right
way. Sincerely". Richard Atcheson (1935-2006) began his writing
career as a reporter at the Chicago Daily News. He moved on to senior writing
and editing positions at several publications, including Holiday, Saturday
Evening Post, Saturday Review, and AARP Magazine. He wrote The Bearded
Lady, and edited Cooking of the South. Normal mailing folds. Ink note
(unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine condition.
