Autograph Letter signed: "Dick Barthelmess", 1 page, 5½x7¾, affixed to a 8½x11 sheet. New York, N. Y., 1940 October 29. On letterhead of the Hotel Pierre to "Dear Mr. Hyman", in full: "Thanks for your letter & for the grand luncheon with the Banshees. I'm looking forward to another visit one day. My address is: 501 Sunset Blvd., Beverly Hills, and I am going there now. Sincerely". RichardBarthelmess (1895-1963) quit films to join the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1942, the year his last film, The Mayor of 44th St. was released, and never returned to Hollywood, retiring from acting. He had first starred in silent movies and was nominated for the first Academy Award for Best Actorfor 1927-1928 for his performances in two films, The Noose and The Patent Leather Kid. Heavily toned, esp. on bottom margins. Binding holes on left margin. Corners slightly worn and creased. Light surface creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
