from/Richard/Barthelmess". Sepia, 6½x6. Silent film star Richard
Barthelmess (1895-1963) was cast by D. W. Griffith opposite
Lillian Gish in Broken Blossoms (1919) and Way Down East
(1920). He was nominated for the first Academy Award for Best Actor
for 1927-1928 for his performances in two films, The Noose and The
Patent Leather Kid. He quit films to join the U.S. Naval Reserve in
1942, the year his last film, The Mayor of 44th St. was released, and
never returned to Hollywood, living off his investments instead. Lightly worn.
1-inch crease at top right corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
