RICHARD BENJAMIN and PAULA PRENTISS
A vintage 3x5 candid photo of Benjamin and Prentiss posing together
on the street. Benjamin wears a knee length trench coat and Prentiss is dressed
in a classy fur coat. Signed by both actors.
Photograph signed: "Richard Benjamin," and co-signed,
"Paula Prentiss," in blue felt tip. B/w, 3x5 image, 3½x5½ overall (one
surface). Candid photo. Actor/director Richard Benjamin (b.1938) began
his career on the stage, directing the London production of Barefoot in the
Park (1965) and the following year, made his Broadway acting debut in
The Star Spangled Girl for which he won a Theatre World Award for his
performance. In 1967, he appeared with his wife, Paula Prentiss, in
the TV situation comedy He and She. Benjamin made his first screen
appearance in Goodbye Columbus and later appeared in such films as
Catch-22 (1969), Portnoy's Complaint (1972), Westworld
(1973), The Sunshine Boys (1976) and Love at First Bite (1980). He
made his directorial bow with My Favorite Year (1982), and continues to
favor directing over acting. Paula Prentiss (b.1938) born Paula
Ragusa in San Antonio, Texas, was signed by MGM in 1960, which groomed her for
stardom in such films as Where the Boys Are (1960), The Honeymoon
Machine (1961) and The Horizontal Lieutenant (1963). In 1967, she
co-starred with her husband Richard Benjamin in a TV sitcom He and She
that received a loyal cult following. Prentiss continued popping up in
excellent film roles thereafter in such movies as The Stepford Wives
(1975), Friendships, Secrets and Lies (1979), Buddy, Buddy (1981)
and Mrs. Winterbourne (1996). This photograph is from the collection of
Francis and Violet Zane, Hawaii natives who moved to California in the
1920's. Francis Zane had a job at the historic Curran Theater and the San
Francisco Opera House, which is where he began his massive collection, with
photographs and materials ranging from the 1920's to 1960's. The location
and luck of his occupation would land him smack dab in the middle of the
celebrity world, allowing him to capture some of the most unique and interesting
pieces of Hollywood History. Lightly bowed. Fine condition.
