3¾x6 photograph of the actor shown in a suit and tie
Inscribed Photograph Signed: "To Joseph Oppenheues/Sincere regards/Richard Bennett/1926", Sepia, 3¾x6. Richard Bennett (1870-1944), previously a professional boxer and medicine showman, emerged as a major Broadway star in the first decade of the new century, with leading roles in Shaw's Man and Superman and Barrie's What Every Woman Wants. The ad lib speeches he often gave during curtain calls were popular with audiences. Bennett entered silent films in 1914, and continued in supporting roles into the talking era. He was the father of actresses Constance, Barbara and Joan Bennett and the grandfather of TV talk host Morton Downey Jr. (In 1916, he wrote the movie script Valley of Decision and then starred in it with his wife Adrienne Morrison and their three daughters.) Corners lightly worn. Unknown residue on face (not effecting signature). Mounting residue on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
