Autograph Letter signed: "Richard Sale", 1 page, 6x8¾. Beverly
Hills, California, 1984 October 9. To "Dear Bill Stanhope", in
full: "This face is too ancient for cameras, so this signature will have
to suffice. Best to you." Richard Sales (1911-1993) began as a writer of
magazine fiction, including the Daffy Dill detective stories. His novel
Not Too Narrow ... Not Too Deep was made into the 1940 film Strange
Cargo, starring Joan Crawford and Clark Gable. Beginning in the late 1940s
he turned his talents to screenwriting for films and then TV. With his
wife Mary Loos, he co-produced the TV series Yancy Derringer (1958-1959).
