RICHARD BURTON
Richard Burton signs a document stating that Atlantic Programmes Limited shall have exclusive right to his services as a film, stage and television actor for ten years.
Document signed: "Richard Burton", 4p, 8½x13¾. Bermuda, 1968 August 14. For a salary of £50,000 per annum, Burton agrees that Atlantic Programmes Limited shall have exclusive right to his services as a film, stage and television actor for ten years. As a "star artist of international repute", Burton shall have the right of approval of all scripts for which his services might be required. Signed on last page. Burton (1925-1984), a Welsh stage and screen actor with a magnificent voice, received seven Oscar nominations (for My Cousin Rachel, 1952; The Robe, 1953, Becket, 1964, The Spy Who Came In From the Cold ,1965; Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, 1966; Anne of the Thousand Days, 1969; and Equus, 1977), all but the first of these as Best Actor. Burton may be best remembered, however, for his tempestuous romances, failed marriages and movie pairings with Elizabeth Taylor, whom he met on the set of Cleopatra (1963). Bound in upper left corner. Last page is slightly frayed at bottom. Otherwise, fine condition.
