RICHARD C. HOTTELET
Unsigned 7x9 photo, shown as a CBS News correspondent
Photograph, unsigned. B/w 7x9½. Typed note on verso: "Richard C. Hottelet - CBC News Correspondent to the United Nations." Richard C. Hottelet (1917-2014) was the last surviving member of "Murrow's Boys," the elite CBS journalists trained by Edward R. Murrow. From March to July 1941, while working for United Press, Hottelet was confined for four months by the German Gestapo and roughly interrogated on suspicion of espionage. From a bomber overhead, he broadcast the first live report of the D-Day invasion (1944), and later parachuted to safety when his plane was shot down during the Battle of the Bulge. At CBS, Hottelet covered national and international news, including UN coverage. He reported for CBS for a total of 41 years (1944-1985).After retiring from CBS, he continued to write op-ed pieces for the Christian Science Monitor, and was made a Presidential Fellow at George Washington University in 2005.
Adhesive residue at corners (previous mounting). No show-through from typed note on verso. Fine condition.
