RICHARD CARLE and JOHNNY ARTHUR The two actors sign this album leaf in pencil Signatures: “Richard Carle” and “Johnny Arthur” in pencil, 6x4½. RICHARD CARLE (1871-1941) was an American actor. A veteran of the stage for 30 years, Carle went on to appear in many movies such as The Understanding Heart (1927), The Ghost Walks (1934), She's Dangerous (1937), Comin' Round the Mountain (1940), and Million Dollar Baby (1941). From 1915 to 1941 he appeared in a total of 132 films. JOHNNY ARTHUR (1883-1952) was an actor who appeared onstage for 25 years before his first film role in The Unknown Purple (1923). His Pre-Code characters tended to have high-pitched voices and displayed effeminate mannerisms. However, once the Code was implemented in 1934 he transitioned to weak-willed, yet undeniably masculine characters. Arthur appeared in everything from low budget movies such as Danger on the Air (1938) and Natzy Nuisance (1943), to big budget productions such as Crime and Punishment (1935). Perhaps most notably though, he was Darla Hood's father in Hal Roach's Our Gang shorts. Binding holes at left edge. Toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
