A signed, handwritten letter from Blackmore sending a check for his
annual subscription to a magazine, and wishing the recipient a prosperous and
happy New Year
Autograph letter signed: "R.D. Blackmore", in blue ink, 3½x5½.
January 03, 1889. In full: "My Dear Sir I have the pleasure of
enclosing my return for 1886, + cheque for annual subscription [item not
included]. Wishing you a happy + prosperous New Year, Thank you [I'll be done
for more largely] for your much needed labours, I am very truly yours".
British novelist Richard Doddridge Blackmore (1825-1900), who is
best known for his 1869 novel, Lorna Doone, was one of the most
famous novelists of his generation. His works and his influence on British
literary style were celebrated in both Britain and in the U.S., although most of
his books, save Lorna Doone, are now out of print. Slightly
soiled. Light surface creases. Corners lightly worn. Normal mailing folds.
Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
