Blackmore writes regarding missing pages from Alice Lorraine (1875) and of Cripps the Carrier (1876)
Autograph Note Signed: "R.D. Blackmore". 1p. 4½x3½ card and 4x5½ printed drawing affixed to 6½x10½ stock - three surfaces. Teddington, England, 1892 May 13. To: Messrs. Pearson. In Full: "Gentlemen. The 20 missing pages of 'Alice Lorraine' that defy discovery; but 'Cripps' is, I think, all there. I am sorry to have been so long, before complying with your request; but many things have hindered me. There are still some possible -though unlikely-places; but before further quest, I be glad to know your wishes- Very faithfully yours" British novelist Richard Doddridge Blackmore (1825-1900), who is best known for his 1869 novel, Lorna Doone, was one of the most famous novelists of his generation. His works and his influence on British literary style were celebrated in both Britain and in the U.S., although most of his books, save Lorna Doone, are now out of print. Note lightly creased and toned. Backing sheet soiled, creased, chipped at edges and corners. Pencil note (unknown hand). Print lightly creased and toned.
