The 20 missing pages of 'Alice Lorraine' that defy discovery; but 'Cripps' is, I
think, all there. I am sorry to have been so long, before complying with your
request; but many things have hindered me. There are still some possible -though
unlikely-places; but before further quest, I be glad to know your wishes- Very
faithfully yours" British novelist Richard Doddridge Blackmore
(1825-1900), who is best known for his 1869 novel, Lorna Doone,
was one of the most famous novelists of his generation. His works and his
influence on British literary style were celebrated in both Britain and in the
U.S., although most of his books, save Lorna Doone, are now out of print.
