RICHARD DONNERDirectors Guild report of his 1960 earnings and 1961 estimated earnings. He has added an autograph note in upper left corner. Document signed: "Richard Donner", 1 page, 8½x11. Los Angeles, California, circa 1961. Directors Guild of America form for reporting director's income, used to calculate annual dues. Donner has also hand printed his name and address, and written an unsigned note in the upper left corner: "Mike please figure my West Coast earnings!". Donner reports directing income of $14,366.40 for 1960 and projects "Same" for 1961. Dues calculation supplied in ink (unknown hand) on lower portion of form. Richard Donner (1930-2021) began directing commercials and business films. Then he became a prolific TV director, with multiple episodes of numerous series of the 1960s and 1970s, including The Loretta Young Show, The Rifleman, The Twilight Zone, Gilligan's Island, Perry Mason and Kojak. After directing the feature film The Omen (1976), he was hired to direct Superman (1978), lauded for eliciting straight, not "camp" performances. Both Donner and actor Marlon Brando were removed from Superman II, with unfortunate results in the minds of most critics. In 2006 a special edition of Superman II: the Richard Donner Cut was released with more footage of Brando and more scenes shot by Donner, including a new opening and ending. Donner's next big success was the Lethal Weapon series, beginning in 1987. Donner and actor Mel Gibson are good friends, but Gibson has rejected Donner's entreaties to make a Lethal Weapon 5. With his wife, producer Laura Shuler Donner, he now runs his own production company. Horizontal mailing folds. Ink stamp on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
