In full: "I appreciate your thoughtfulness in sending to me a copy of the article from the Cincinnati Enquirer regarding the 1980 Republican Vice Presidential nomination. I had not seen Mr. Webb's analysis, and found it most interesting reading. Thanks for writing. Please keep in touch. Sincerely".  Accompanied by original typed envelope with facsimile signature. Rhodes scholar Richard Green "Dick" Lugar (1932-2019) was Mayor of Indianapolis, Indiana from 1968-1976, and he has represented Indiana as a Republican in the U.S. Senate since 1977, winning his 2006 re-election bid with 87% of the vote. Twice Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations (1985-1987 and 2003-2007), Lugar sought the Republican Presidential nomination in 1996. In 2006, "Time" magazine named him as one of "America's 10 Best Senators". W. Ernst "Ernie" Minorwas a Republican activist who held posts in the Nixon and Reagan administrations.
