In full: "Mary Esther, my lovely grand-daughter, went to Philadelphia last Sunday eve from Harrisburg to hear Richard Halliburton speak to a student body. He was so gracious as to autograph one of his own books for her and she was tho'tfull (sic) enough to ask for a second autograph so that I might send it to you. Nice of her? Hope you haven't one of his already. She just sent it to me in a letter & I am husteling (sic) it off to you. Hope to see you this year." Letter written and signature obtained the year before Halliburton's death. Richard Halliburton (1900-1939) was a writer, lecturer, explorer and world traveler. His books include The Royal Road to Romance (1925), The Glorious Adventure (1927) and New Worlds to Conquer (1929) and Seven League Boots (1935). In March 1939, the 39-year-old author-adventurer was lost at sea in a typhoon as he and his crew attempted to sail the Chinese junk Sea Dragon from Hong Kong to San Francisco. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Fine condition, with large, bold signature.
