RICHARD HAYMAN
Shown from the chest up wearing a suit and tie in this black and white magazine photograph.
Inscribed Magazine Photograph signed: "To/Celia/Best Wishes/Richard/Hayman" in blue ink. B/w 7¾x9¾. Richard Hayman (1920-2014) began as a harmonica player, moved on to arranging, and became one of America's premier pop conductors. He arranged music for the Borrah Minnevitch Harmonica Rascals, before joining M-G-M. There he arranged soundtracks for the Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland film Girl Crazy, and again with Garland in Meet Me in St. Louis. He next became music arranger for the Vaughn Monroe Orchestra (1945-1950), before pairing up with conductor Arthur Fiedler as arranger for the Boston Pops Orchestra. He spent over 30 years with the Boston Pops, and many of his arrangements are still in use there. Finally, Hayman himself became a pops orchestra conductor, leading such groups the Grand Rapids Symphony Pops, the Florida Sunshine Pops, and serving as guest conductor in St. Louis, Detroit, Hartford, Ontario and other cities. He has led the Manhattan Pops and his own Richard Hayman Orchestra on more than two dozen recorded albums. Unevenly cut at edges. Lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
