Photograph Signed: "Richard/ Hearne". B/w, 7½x9¾. English actor and comedian Richard
Hearne (1908-1979) appeared in films and television series for nearly 40 years. He is best
remembered for his slapstick character Mr Pastry, a bumbling mustached old man in a
bowler hat, which he originated on stage, and then performed on the BBC for years. Mr
Pastry was featured on television (Mr Pastry's Progress; Ask Mr Pastry) and in films (Just for
Fun, 1947; The Madame Gambles, 1951; The Adventures of Mr Pastry, 1958). Also a
talented acrobat and writer, Hearne was appointed an OBE for his charitable work.
