performance." Written the year Adams appeared in a Rodgers and Hammerstein version
of Cinderella. Obtained from Adams' estate.
Typed Letter signed: "Dick", 1 page, 7x7. No place, 1957 April 1. To Miss Edith Adams, 300
Central Park West, New York, N. Y. In full: "Dear Edie - Thank you for your telegram. It was
wonderful working with you and I am delighted with your performance and with the opportunity
to know you better. Fondly". Composer RichardRodgers (1902-1979) collaborated with
lyricists Lorenz Hart and later Oscar Hammerstein II to produce dozens of America's
most beloved popular songs and many of its most successful musicals. Collaborations with
Hart produced such standards as "With a Song in My Heart", "The Lady Is a Tramp", "My
Funny Valentine" and "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered". After Hart's death (1943),
Rodgers teamed up with Hammerstein to produce one Broadway hit after another,
including Oklahoma, South Pacific, The Sound of Music and The King and I. This letter
was obtained from the estate of singer, actress and businesswoman Edie Adams (1927-2009).
In 1957, appeared as the Fairy Godmother in a TV rendition of Cinderella, featuring a
Rodgers and Hammerstein score. Worn and lightly toned. Mounting residue on verso.
Edges lightly frayed. Otherwise, fine condition.
